It All Started When...

We realized that while there are a plethora of Islamic Sunday schools in the area, many of these schools take a rote memorization approach to the course curriculum. Far too often, children memorize material without a proper understanding of what it is they are memorizing, and as a result become disenchanted with the material and the Islamic lifestyle as a whole. Rarely do the lessons taught in class seem applicable to day-to-day life, creating a schism between what we learn our deen is and how we actually go about applying it.

It is as a result of this gap that the Akhlaq Institute was conceptualized. We decided to take an integrative approach to children's learning of the traditional Qur'an, Arabic, and Islamic studies skills, and teach in new and unconventional ways. Rather than focusing on the quantity memorized of Qur'an, ahadith, or Islamic facts, we plan to focus on quality and depth of understanding.

The Akhlaq Institute staff is comprised of a group of Sunday school teachers with background from nearly all the Islamic schools in the greater Puget Sound area. We are also parents and professionals in engineering and medical fields. With over 20 years of Islamic studies, Arabic, and Qur’an teaching experience, we strive to bring our expertise into the classroom.
